Deze Beta 181 is een instrumentmicrofoon die voor meerdere doelen inzetbaar is en die gebruikt kan worden in een groot aantal verschillende toepassingen, zoals gitaren, basgitaren en drums (overheads en snares). Er zijn in totaal vier verschillende capsules (Cardioïde, Supercardioïde, Bidirectioneel, Omnidirectioneel) verkrijgbaar, wat inhoudt dat ze instelbaar zijn naar gelang de toepassing.
